The 5 hour train journey on our first day took us to Didi's home. His very kind mother had supper waiting for us when we arrived. A big bowl full of potatoes, and a very dangerous home brewed drink which we quickly learnt to fear.
before eating, a shot of a clear liquid was poured for everyone. We all stood up to make a toast. I looked accross the room at Eoin, trying to understand if we should sip the drink, ot just knock it back. Eoin indicated we should knock it back. So, Eoin and I did knock it back, and everyone else sipped.
Didi's mother looked at us as if we were mad, and promptly fetched another bottle. Things went very quickly downhill at this point.
The next morning I could not believe the pain in my head, I could hardly move. Thankfully Eoin felt the same way. I went to the kitched, met Didi's father, and Didi's brother (who is a big John Farnham fan).
I sat down for breakfast, and was presented which another shot of the drink we had last night. I thought it was a joke, but everyone had one, and everyone looked as sick as I did.
